Being the country’s pioneer in Islamic insurance, Syarikat Takaful Malaysia Berhad (Takaful Malaysia) has established a strong foothold in the local insurance industry. Incorporated on 29 November 1984 with an authorised capital of RM500 million and a paid up capital of RM163 million, the Company was listed on the Main Board of the Malaysian Stock Exchange on 30 July 1996 and is the sole listed Islamic Insurance player in Malaysia. Takaful Malaysia has 23 service centres nationwide with a solid financial background of RM7.3 billion Group Assets and Shareholder’s Equities of close to RM640 million.
With over 30 years of experience in serving Malaysians with a wide range of Family and General takaful products, Takaful Malaysia is the number one player in Group Family Takaful capturing approximately 30% market share. Ranking number two out of the eleven Takaful Operators in the local market, Takaful Malaysia to date has over 2 million certificate holders in force.
Takaful Malaysia has consistently recorded net profit cumulative annual growth rate of 30% since 2008 with a double digit sales growth over and above the industry performance. Another important factor that gives the company a competitive advantage over its competitors is its unique selling proposition of being the only insurance company to offer a 15% Cash Back to its valued customers if no claims are made within the year of coverage. Takaful Malaysia has paid out a total of RM167 million of Cash Back to its valued customers and business partners from 2009 to 2014 and this projects a continuous positive growth for the company’s General Takaful portfolio. Apart from the individual customers, more than 5,000 multinationals, small and medium industries’ entrepreneurs have also gained from this privilege.
Takaful Malaysia also edged another milestone to its accolades in September 2013 when it was awarded the ‘Best Performing Stock–Highest Returns to Shareholders over Three years’ under the Finance Sector at the Edge Billion Ringgit Club Corporate Awards 2013. This recognition brings honour and prestige to Takaful Malaysia as the company has been acknowledged as the first ever Islamic Financial Institution to have won this award by The Edge Billion Ringgit Club (BRC) Corporate Awards. Takaful Malaysia also clinched the ‘Best Takaful Company in Malaysia’ Award, three years in a row at the International Takaful Awards 2015, 2014 and 2013. These achievements further endorse Takaful Malaysia’s industry leadership and market position in addition to strengthening its brand position amongst the public.
