Badr is Executive Director at Dome Advisory and is both a Shariah scholar and an Islamic finance lawyer. He is a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England and Wales and was called to the English bar in 2001. Badr was formerly an Associate in the award winning Islamic finance team at the international law firm, Simmons & Simmons, based in Dubai. He is a Certified Shariah Advisor and Auditor with the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI) in Bahrain and has sat on several Shariah Supervisory Boards.  Badr has over 10 years of experience in English law, Islamic law and Islamic finance and specialises in structuring and drafting Shariah compliant financial products in both English and Arabic.
Badr read law with LLB (Hons) at the London School of Economics after which he studied BA Shariah (Hons) at Al-Azhar University in addition to various traditional Shariah disciplines, including fiqh and usul al-fiqh (Islamic jurisprudence), with some of the leading scholars of Syria.
Some of Badr’s recent work includes:

  • Advising one of the largest international information service providers on drafting a suite of legal practice and drafting notes and developing bespoke example documentation for Islamic financial products
  • Advising SAH Global as General Counsel and Head of Shariah in relation to its pioneering Proton Therapy cancer treatment projects in the Middle East and Europe
  • Advising Dubai Islamic Bank on arranging a syndicated SAR3.15bn (US$840m) multi-facility Islamic project financing to the Saudi Binladin Group for the development of the womens’ campus of King Saud University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (winner of "Syndicated Deal of the Year" at the Islamic Finance News Awards 2009 and “Best Social Development Deal in EMEA” at the EMEA Finance Achievement Awards 2009)
  • Advising J P Morgan on structuring an Islamic Structured Products Programme for the issuance of notes, warrants and certificates
  • Advising numerous international and local financial institutions, including Barclays Capital, HSBC, Royal Bank of Scotland, Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank and Qatar Islamic Bank on structuring and drafting Shariah compliant transactions and products
